About St. Croix

Christopher Columbus first discovered St. Croix on his second voyage in 1493.  It was then inhabited by the Carib Indians.  Over the many past centuries, seven different country flags have flown over the island.  At one time it was the primary source for Denmark’s sugar needs.  Therefore, such dutch architecture is still found today in the plantations, sugar mills and the ruins of each.  Some dwellings have survived.  Now the island sports two main towns.

These being Christiansted located on the north central coast where one can shop till they drop in Kings Alley Walk and Frederiksted located to the west.  It does share the distinction of being the largest of the three islands. It offers many forms of recreation which includes multiple golf courses, horseback riding and home to a number of enchanting tropical resorts which offer many other choices which include world class diving. One can find many great restaurants and even a legalized gambling casino at Divi Carina Bay.  Like its sister island of St. Thomas, St. Croix is also a port of call to many cruise lines.  It has one of the largest oil refineries that provide twenty percent of our stateside needs. It also has a large rum distillery that bottles the best rums in our world.
